As I was saying last week, "Praise God by raising the poor." carrying on the same theme this week between rich and poor, the rich man and Lazarus. Let's be clear, money is good and can help a million situations. But, I think Jesus is referring to the fact that love of money can sometimes blind us to the needs of others. 

Today's gospel is difficult to understand, but taken with the first reading Jesus is literally on the side of the poor. When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.

Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. I have said it before and I will say it again. Every home/house should have a crucifix in the living room. Pride of place for all to see. But more importantly for the residents to see, especially children.

I believe 99% of the population are good people. But, yet the state of the world is not very good. Poverty, war, pain, suffering, isolation (OF THINKING) etc. Today's readings Jesus is trying to move us on to something greater. Hating our parents etc. Forget it. He is trying to get us to look beyond family, kinship, tribalism, nationalism etc...

God invites us this Sunday to make efforts to reach him. In the first reading from Prophet Isiah 66:18-21, God speaks of coming to gather all nations of every language, to proclaim his glory among them and to make some of the returnees priest and Levites to serve Him.

Having reminded the apostle’s and the crowd that facing the coming judgement takes patience, Jesus now goes on to speak of how difficult it will be to wait. He tells them that he has come to set the earth on fire...

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, The word of God this Sunday invites us to have faith in God and to always be ready for the second coming of the Lord. In the second reading, three moments of faith in the life of Abraham is pointed out to teach us what faith means. 

The first reading and the Gospel of this Sunday teach us to use the things of this world in such a way as to enable us reach heaven. For it is vanity to stick to the worldly goods, and close our eyes to what matters before God. We must be in this world, and not of it. We have to collect the necessary goods of this world by honest labour, and yet remain detached from them. We have to possess, but not be possessed by worldly riches...

OUR FATHER.....Not mine or yours but OUR. That makes us family, brothers and sisters belonging to and supporting each other. Otherwise, OUR doesn't make any sense. We have to live as family if we want to appreciate God as OUR FATHER. Then Jesus goes on who art in heaven hallowed be your name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
